Concord, New Hampshire – A new Zogby poll shows very strong public support for national clean energy legislation passed by the House and now being considered by the Senate.

Seventy-one percent of likely voters support the American Clean Energy and Security (ACES) legislation passed by the House in June. Breakdown by party shows support among 45 percent of Republicans, 73 percent of Independents, and 89 percent of Democrats. By 68 to 29 percent, voters think ACES will either create or have no impact on jobs.

When given fair descriptions of the positions of both sides of the debate over ACES, by 54 to 41 percent, likely voters think that the Senate should not delay in taking action. Specifically, 54 percent think that the Senate should take action because "we need a new energy plan right now that invests in American, renewable energy sources like wind and solar, in order to create clean energy jobs, address global warming and reduce our dependency on foreign oil."

In New Hampshire alone, ACES would provide:

·     8,000 clean energy jobs could be created in just two years
·     A one percent reduction in the unemployment rate
·     A savings of $160 million in subsidies big oil and gas companies
·     A savings of 2.3 billion over the first eight years from more efficient use of energy

The public recognizes the need to secure America’s energy independence now, and economist project big savings and job growth as a result of clean energy legislation. Tell congress to support clean energy legislation now!
