Operation Free: Veterans Oppose America’s Reliance on Foreign Fuels

WESTOVER – A group of Veterans are traveling the country to promote clean energy and to change our country’s dependence on fossil fuels.

It’s called Operation Free; the Veterans for American Power Tour.

It made a stop at the Westover VFW Sunday.

Veterans are trying to spread awareness to communities and local leaders about our country’s dependence on crude oil that puts money into the hands of countries who don’t support the United States.

One West Point Graduate from Huntington said we need to contact our senators.

“Our addiction to oil and fossil fuels is directly funding the insurgents and terrorists we’re fighting oversees,” said Jon Gensler.

“I don’t know how many bullets or bombs that we’ve paid for but I know that in 2007 every West Virginian paid about $2,000 for foreign oil and I think we need to do everything we can to stop that,” says Gensler.

The bus tour made a stop in Charleston Sunday afternoon and plans to visit 21 states by Oct. 25.
