Vets Deliver “Iran Oil Profits Counter” to Kerry Hill Office
American Power Act could prevent $100 million per day in Iranian oil profit
Devices tally Iranian oil profits the American Power Act would prevent
WASHINGTON – Today, US military veterans delivered a large digital counter to the office of Senator John Kerry on Capitol Hill. The clock-like device, which features the photo of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, tallies Iranian oil profits which the passage of the American Power Act would prevent. The tally was started yesterday to count the cost of delaying passage of comprehensive energy and climate legislation in the Senate.
Senator Kerry attended the event and gave remarks.
Economic research by the Center for American Progress Action Fund and based on work done at MIT, shows that putting a strong cap on carbon emissions would cost Iran up to $100 million a day in oil profit. Iranian support for insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan is well known and Iranian explosive technology is used by insurgents in Iraq to create the most deadly roadside bombs, Explosively Formed Projectiles (EFPs).
The “oil profit counters” will be displayed in the Senator’s office in support of passage of the American Power Act.
“Leaders like John Kerry, Joe Lieberman, and Lindsay Graham understand the threats of the 21st century. They join the vast majority of America’s veterans, who know that ending oil dependence and stopping climate change are national security priorities,” said Jonathan Murray, Marine Corps veteran and Operation Free Campaign Director. “Oil money is funding terrorism around the world – it’s time to choke off the flow.”
