Congress has had difficulty reaching consensus in recent years, but there’s still hope that the two parties can come to terms on some common-sense initiatives to build a strong foundation for the long term. The Colorado delegation took a key step in this direction by issuing a bipartisan joint statement (minus one Representative) in favor of extending the wind production tax credit. Wind energy is particularly promising in states like Colorado, which has a substantial amount of suitable land as well as a sufficiently breezy climate.
The Colorado delegation has done an excellent job of pointing out that wind energy is an important component of a comprehensive energy strategy going forward. It will decrease our reliance on fossil fuels, which are insufficient to satisfy America’s energy needs at a reasonable price for the long term. Hopefully, the rest of Congress will realize the wisdom of this strategy and follow Colorado’s advice.
