Renewable Energy Will Improve America’s Bargaining Power

While we consider the effects of climate change on our own country, we also need to be aware of how American leadership is diminishing on a global scale.  US interests will be threatened by lack of credibility among our allies. China is currently ahead of the United States when it comes to environmental leadership.  The Chinese understand the gravity of this situation and have already imposed emissions standards and begun investing in a renewable future.  Americans cannot stand idly by while the US loses its edge on the world stage.

The United States is in a weak position to negotiate with other governments because it has been unwilling to take action on climate change; foreign powers see no need to listen to our leaders when this is the case.
